MISSION OF FESTIVAL
Founded in 2004, the mission of the Michigan Waterfest is to celebrate & promote water safety, tourism and community involvement of Traverse City, Michigan.

SOCIAL IMPACT
The social impact from an event like this can only be positive. The Michigan WaterFest endeavors to host an event that creates positive impact -not only as it relates to its audience and those in attendance, but, in a larger sense, on the greater entity that is the boating community and those that use the water. By having an event that is entertaining, educational and accessible to the general public, WaterFest will have a positive social impact on the community.

The focus of the event is the water. The water is the reason why many of us moved here and continue to live here. We think it’s important to show off the community’s connection to the water, its history with the water and the waters future connection with the community. The community’s fate and destiny and quality of life are tied to the water. The purpose of this festival is to celebrate it, respect it, and learn about what it takes to protect it.

ECONOMIC IMPACT
The Michigan Waterfest will have a impact on the local economy. Participants, their families and support crew spend money on fuel, meals, lodging, miscellaneous expenditures, etc., and this has a direct impact on the revenue for the city and local merchants.

Provided a successful first event, we anticipate this becoming annual, scheduled every year the weekend before Labor Day. This weekend is traditionally a “slower” summer weekend for Traverse City.

COMMUNITY BENEFITS
The Michigan Waterfest will undoubtedly provide educational value, entertainment value, and economic value to the residents and merchants of the Grand Traverse Community. By uniting various water related events with local non-profit organizations, boating safety groups and environmental conservation agencies, our community will have the opportunity to enjoy a potential annual festival while becoming educated on boater safety issues and local water resource concerns.

Celebrate it, respect it and learn to protect it.
